Cello Fever
The last time that Finnish cellists Apocalyptica were at Download was in 2003 where Metallica played in their slot and the band themselves played a shortened set on the main stage. Since then they're profile has slowly grown with support slots for Rammstein and Breed 77 already this year.
As they start their set of Metallica covers and cello-rock, the only question on everybody's mind is why have they been put on the Snickers Stage when they could easily pull a crowd large enough for the main stage - with more fans than The Others and JJ72 could muster together crammed in to the second stage tent and bursting out the sides.

There is a pause, a moment of silence and then the opening strings to 'Master of Puppets' cause an uproar in the crowd who seem to think that they are James Hetfield and take over vocal responsibilities - adding every word to an acoustic song. As you stand and watch this there is no doubt that the band justify the size and devotion of the crowd in every possible way.

As 'Seek and Destroy' starts, the crowd are informed that they will be treated to a song by a band known as Metallica. The opening riff repeats itself over and over slowly charging the crowd until the song launches in full. For the first time this weekend, the festival spirit has truly kicked in.

Apocalyptica have been overlooked for far too long in the UK and known only for their covers of Metallica songs. It's time that they're finally starting to see the support they deserve from labels and fans alike. As they finish up with 'Inquisition Symphony' the set draws to a close with a tent full of screaming metal fans wanting more cellos. If you get the chance to see Apocalyptica - do it.
