Nothing Special Here

Quite why the Napster stage is full from front to back is a bit of a mystery when it comes to Slunt's set. They're not a band known for club anthems, not a band known for tabloid rock stories, and not a band known for musical excellence - they're just a band known for having a catchy single and two birds in the band.

There are plenty of bands with female guitarists, vocalists or front-women, but very few of these bands actually seem to last, as people see them as a novelty act rather than a serious attempt at music. This is, often, because the bands simply don't have the talent to make it, and have only ever been signed since labels often see the money they can make from a novelty act. Judging by today's performance it's a chance that Slunt are just another one of these acts.

From the onset Slunt are an average band. They walk on, start to play and that's all you get for 25 minutes. There's nothing else to their set. No moments of greatness, no sugar coating and nothing out of the ordinary.

Musically, Slunt are a good choice for the lighter "punk, emo and indie day" that Friday has been dubbed. They've got catchy punk-rock riffs that keep you nodding along from start to finish but the vocals just don't cut it live.

With weak vocals and a poor stage presence, they finish their set with their latest single. Slunt are fine if you want to listen to a catchy CD, but live they just don't seem to cut it. If you want to judge for yourself then pop along to their current UK tour.
