Explosive performance from the caring neighbourhood punk band
It's noisy, it's fast, it's a racket. It's The Explosion. They're very tight and not half bad either. They play straight up punk, but there's still a twist there. It's a shame a lot of people are not really getting into the music, because more people should have been dancing along madly. Besides, the band seem to be enjoying themselves, and there's a difference between their live performance and the other punk bands' - they don't try to antagonise the crowd most of the time. That, and the fact that this is more DC punk that '70s punk means that they're a brilliant band to see live.
The band are highly passionate about their music and also look out for their fans - at one point the singer stops to make sure somebody is ok in the crowd before a cry of "Now we're back in business". It's difficult not to like him with his friendliness and willingness to please. The problem comes from the Explosion being a small venue band, because even the half-empty Napster stage swallows them up.
The shift towards a more Blink 182 sound continues with one of the last tunes played sounding freshly swiped from 'Take Off Your Pants and Jacket' so, nothing prepares me for the sheer punk-rockery of the last few songs. Almost straight after though, the last song descends the band into the Blink 182 styled music. A disappointing ending to a promising band.
