Kicking Up Dirt
Clouds of dust are rising from the Main Stage from the very beginning of Mudvayne's set. Beginning with discordant, clashing melodies that grate and swamp those who are watching. Again, problems hit the vocalists upon the Main Stage and Mudvayne's frontman struggles to be heard over the brazen guitars. The crowd is impressed, swelling in size as the screams get louder after every song. The heavy pumping bass hails a more melodic song as far as Mudvayne go. It creeps up on the audience silently before packing an unexpected shock in the chorus which kicks in with abrasive vocals that roar above the gentle, musical storm created by the rest of the band.

It's almost as though Mudvayne are pulling the sky closer to Donington as they throw up a whirlwind of sound. Mudvayne are on top musical form today and appear to overcome the now legendary sound quality of the main stage. The rage they display continues throughout their set, and in places they sound reminiscent of Spineshank. Somehow though, they manage to keep their unmistakable vocals and the music thunders out and drags in more people to the Main Stage. The bass really is the shining hero in Mudvayne's music, providing the backbone for the rest of their songs to hang from.

The pits continue to rage and the dust continues to fly as more people pack onto the dirt in front of the stage. After proclaiming their love for the English and their drinking habits, they tone down their music for a far more mournful, morbid song that weeps over the crowd like the rain that's soon to come. Yet another stunning and impressive display of talent to be found at Download 2005.
