Protest The Hero - May 2006

Canadian rockers Protest The Hero have already released their debut album Kezia in their home country, but they've come over the pond to promote and hopefully build up some of the recognition they deserve.

The Ontario quintet put on a stomping show at the Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth. They had thirty minutes to wow the crowd and I would say they certainly did that. They received a warm reception from the crowd, and had good interaction with them throughout their set, although singer Rody's gay joke flopped like an unerect penis. Sound quality was good throughout and no instrument drowned out another, although I would like to give a mention to Luke Hoskin on lead guitar who was brilliant and even the kids in the crowd notice (yes, I was eavesdropping). The band managed to maintain their high level of energy throughout the set, and from the crowd reaction I think a lot of people will be coming back to see them again. And they are definitely worth checking out if you get the chance. Personally I think they sound better live than on CD, but that's just my humble opinion.
