Bloody hell, that was a good support slot.

As a way of introducing a band to get people talking, The Blood Arm certainly knows how to do it. Welcomed on stage by a tale telling of a stillborn baby being brought back to life and travelling Glasgow (namedropping nearby streets and landmarks, all to the whoops and hollers of the crowd) to be reunited with the sound of the band, it was perhaps slightly tasteless but certainly whipped up some excitement and vigour in the audience.

When they last hit these shores, a lot of the publicity for The Blood Arm came from the fact that Franz Ferdinand were name checking them and tonight, three quarters of local act Sons and Daughters were checking them out.

And most eyes were on the movements of lead singer Nathaniel Fregoso who almost certainly went to the Mick Jagger school of strutting and arse wiggling. Not once did he stop moving, even ending up on speakers, in the crowd and ended the gig possibly as far away from the rest of the band as possible in the venue, standing on a side ledge. As well as that, he managed to kick over half the drum-kit mid set, which to drummer Zac Amos's credit, never put him off his stride.

When two songs in the band asks 'Do I have your attention?', the answer is a resounding yes, with the front man busying himself as the keyboards tinkled and stepped behind him and all chaos ensued in front.

With a cover of Robert Johnsons 'Love In Vain', the band had a handle on the classics (and bearing in mind the Rolling Stones also covered this song, the Jagger influence must run deep) but no song was greeted with lustier approval than recent single, 'Suspicious Character.'

You may have heard this track, it's the one with the chorus of "I like all the girls and all the girls like me", it takes a tongue in cheek or an ego the size of California to pull off a lyric like that and Fregoso definitely has one or the other as he roared out the lines and then found himself stage-diving into the throng at the front.

For 30 minutes work, The Blood Arm certainly know how to make an impact and with a new album on the way, its very likely that 2007 will give the band every opportunity to puff out their chest and strut all over the UK many times.
