Get Happy Tour
Four of the happiest bands around today have joined forces to bring the Get Happy Tour to the UK. The Get Happy Tour was the brain child of Bowling For Soup and Army Of Freshmen, over the summer it took the States by storm and it's bound to cause a stir here too.
I went along to the second date of the tour, a sold out show at Southampton Guildhall. First on stage was Army Of Freshmen, who in some ways are still relatively unknown over here but they won themselves an army of loyal fans when they supported Bowling For Soup in October 2005. These happy go lucky rockers took at the stage by storm, and with perfect sound and great stage presence they soon whipped the crowd into a frenzy.
Next up was Wheatus, a band I think it's fair to say a huge majority of the British public thought had broken up. It was obvious that the crowd was excited to have them back on British soil, and couldn't wait to hear them perform their classic hit 'Teenage Dirtybag' and their fab cover of 'Little Respect'. Even though Brendon is the only original member left, they didn't disappoint and those classic tracks as well as new material went down a treat.
The only British band on the tour are Son Of Dork, and I was slightly worried that the boys wouldn't be able to hold their own up against these top American bands. But I needn't of worried, the SOD boys soon had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hands, and they were the perfect fit to the other bands on the show. They sounded great and put on a very lively performance. These three bands were the perfect warm up for Bowling For Soup.
By the time Bowling For Soup came on to the stage, the atmosphere was electric. BFS were on top for, they sounded fantastic and treated the crowd to a rendition of Fergie's 'London Bridge' as well as all their classics we have come to know and love; 'The Bitch Song', 'Girl All The Band Guys Want', '1985' to name but a few. Not to mention a whole host of new songs of their latest album Great Burrito Extortion Case, including the current single 'High School Never Ends'. After playing and entertaining the crowd for well over an hour, it's fair to say that the crowd was sad to see them leave the stage, I think it was a night that for most they didn't want to see end.
