Paul Tigara and Gail
Bleep Bleep.
Not quite what the roadrunner used to utter, although bleep bleep can be used to blank out swear words, although the swear words would be preferable. When you consider the horror that is the bleep test, running between two set points with a decreasing time-limit, theres a lot of bad associated with the word bleep. Thankfully though, MySpace has attempted to salvage the word from a life of ridicule with their Bleep Bleep tour, headlined by Pull Tiger Tail.
The bands quirky name and rushing sense of keyboard drones and guitar fills seem to dovetail nicely with this Nu-Rave malarkey that hasn't managed to die yet and there were glo-sticks aplenty in the Barfly to greet the bands arrival.
And throughout the short set, there was enough to say that PTT could be an act to emerge from the current jostling for media awareness, although that is probably damning them with faint praise. The three-piece are pretty tight, they cavort around the stage seemingly having fun and the songs, are solid, if perhaps lacking in many memorable moments. If we can accept that PTT have a lot of development still to do, then its easy to find them likeable.
This is a band that doesn't appear to slow down, the Glasgow leg may have been the last night of their current tour but they were due back in Glasgow by the weekend supporting Get Cape etc and after dropping off at the Camden Crawl will be back on the road for a tour sponsored by NME and Levis. That's a lot of endorsements they will be getting through but if the goings good, they may as well get it while they can.
Ending with 'Lets Lightning', the set was given a rousing climax, with the song having the potential to be a moderate hit for the band, or at least open up a few more doors and ears. It's a breathless jittery track with a sense of paranoia running through it and it transfers well to the live scene. The combination of fast and slow divides the track nicely and sends the kids bouncing home with a spring in the air and a glo-stick in the air.
