A Great Band Casting Huge Shadows
Shadows Fall have serious mainstream appeal nowadays. Their anthemic choruses and clean vocals set against a ferocious metal backdrop are perfect for the main stage at Download and it is unsurprising that a huge crowd has gathered to enjoy their exciting brand of hardcore
One of the many highlights of this energetic and refreshing set is 'Thoughts Without Words'- a brutal onslaught of juggernaut guitars and a firm rhythm section. Melodic vocals are thrown out the window by lead singer Brian Fair and instead the crowd are given the chance to shout along as circle pits form and the main stage crowd takes the chance to give Shadows Fall a warm welcome by way of circle pits and nodding heads.
New track 'Venomous' from their latest album Threads of Life is far more mainstream than the other songs played today but this does not mean to say it is bad. Far from it in fact, for the vicious guitar work makes it highly enjoyable whilst the song moves in all directions at once.
'Redemption' is also a standout song on the latest album and is about the power found within music. Shadows Fall are a band who have supported their fans through good times and bad, their music providing hope and happiness and comfort in times of need. There is true passion running through Shadows Fall and this is easily seen when watching the band perform live. The love of music that is so clear when watching the band perform on stage is something that Download in its entirety is about- and there could be no better band to communicate this message to the crowds of people today.
