Inner City Sumos
The Bronx have been around for a good few years now and seem to have a knack for upsetting people along the way, most recently for designing a Playboy shirt to be auctioned off for charity. Whatever the gripe The Bronx have never cared one way or another and have just got on with doing what they do best - delivering hard as nails punk rock.
It's no surprise to established fans when singer Matt Caughthran launches himself into the crowd in the first song and he proves to be a nightmare to deal with all night for the security guys. The sound isn't too great early on, much of the tune is lost in a barrage of noise but it's a good performance however and the crowd love it. Half way through the set Caughthran climbs down into the crowd with the choice phrase "make room for papa". Predictably the crowd go nuts around him and he stays there for a couple of songs, it's a brilliant piece of showmanship. The rest of the band play their part too, clearly enjoying playing to a capacity crowd with smiles all round. The Bronx often get compared to other US punk bands from the 80s but they've developed enough now to make their own mark and there are plenty in the crowd tonight that are happy to go along with them for the ride.
The penultimate song is just immense with wave after wave of crowd surfers flying over the barriers. They finish with 'Around the Horn' and Caughthran has one last trick up his sleeve, on the final beat he throws himself into the drumkit, demolishing it in the process! It's funny, it's great and noone here will forget The Bronx in a hurry.
