Sam and Co. turn up the heat and delight fans during intimate Glasto warm-up.
Yeovil Ski Lodge provided a small, intimate setting for this pre-Glastonbury warm-up show by one of the rising stars of 2007. Packed to the rafters, the 300 strong crowd seemed to appreciate that this was a rare opportunity to see Sam Duckworth and his live band in such a personal environment, given the meteoric rise to fame he has endured over the past few months.
Taking to the stage in a trim brown suit, Sam opened the set with live favourite 'Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager Part II', to which the crowd delightedly swayed and sang along. The band seemed to feed off the energy and excitement of the crowd, with Sam declaring "you guys have made more noise than a crowd twice the size, you're great!", then proceeding into set highlight and single 'I Spy', played with passion and precision, aided by the exuberant gathering. Other crowd favourites were 'War of the Worlds', 'Oak Tree' and the self-titled track 'Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly', which were all performed with great aplomb and feeling. Two new tracks were interspersed with the material from debut album 'Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager', which the crowd duly lapped up. Whether these tracks appear on the next album, only time will tell.
Despite the astronomical heat inside the venue, due to lack of air conditioning (or even a door being left open!), it was clear for all to see just how much the band relished being able to play in such an intimate venue once again. Even with the lights on and the crowd filtering out, Sam ordered the lights to be dimmed for a few more tracks, including an excellent rendition of 'The Lighthouse Keeper'.
With such passion, talent and sheer enjoyment portrayed throughout their set, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly are sure to make an excellent impression on their Glastonbury debut.
