Not A Sorry Parting
Au Revoir Simone's cute pop with chirpy keyboard melodies instantly puts the rain at bay as the sun radiates out over the crowd at the Obelisk stage. The three Brookyln hippy-esque keyboard players start off with, 'Sad Song' which sees suitably chintzy heart shaped onscreen graphics appear round their faces on the large screens. It's all a little cliched for such happy pop, but it's pleasant to dry off to after the sudden downpour before their set. The girls are joined by the drummer from Camera Obscura who replaces a drum machine for the first time ever live, quite a special show given that the girls have played plenty of festivals already this summer and this addition seems to give, 'Fallen Snow' a brighter feel.
Sadly most of the tunes just seem too chilled to be anything more than pleasant background music and have no verse-chorus progression that catches the imagination anymore than the clouds drifting by might fascinate the crowd; the music's simply there and it's nice, but it's barely more than a somnolent breeze.
