Not what it could have been

There's no denying that Martha Wainwright has a great voice, or that her folk rooted ballad dominated rock isn't extremely powerful, it's just that on this occasion, the whole experience was very flat.

The JJB Tent was far from packed, with plenty of those of a more casual observing nature inside to escape the rain and try to get warm. The sound quality in that tent is poor, which is odd given how it's great in the others around the site.

Wainwright's music simply seemed to wash over people, and got a generally unenthusiastic reaction. Tracks like 'Factory' and 'Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole' stood out, but to be honest they didn't really have much to stand out from.

With the Happy Mondays moved to another stage to fill the Amy Winehouse gap, acts on this stage were stretched out to allow for Jarvis Cocker and Ocean Colour Scene to play directly before Primal Scream. It seemed as if Martha Wainwright was trying to stretch her own set out, as there were larger than average gaps between songs.

Later that night she did get the response her talent deserves, as she joined Snow Patrol on the main stage for 'Set the Fire to the Third Bar', and received a massive cheer. If those in the JJB Tent see her in a smaller venue, I'm sure they'd be able to get a much better idea of what she can do.
