Dog eat dog
Street Dogs are a five piece outfit from Boston Massachusetts and you'd have a fair idea of what they were going to sound like from the name (& the stage they're on) and guess what? You'd be right on the money.
It's easy to be critical of bands like Street Dogs when they're on a bill with a lot of other punk bands and to an extent they are just another rehash of early 80s street punk, falling somewhere between the Angelic Upstarts and the Dropkick Murphys. Not surprising really given that vocalist Mike McColgan was the original Dropkick Murphys singer. So it's nothing new but like many of their contemporaries they do it well, there are plenty of big riffs and choruses and to be fair they do have some good songs.
They get a healthy section of the crowd clapping along and they give a big performance, all of which contributes to making their half hour set an enjoyable one. The other problem with the majority of punk bands from the US is that they all feel the need to apologise for their government; admirable sentiments but it wears a bit thin after the fourth or fifth time in one weekend. On their own tour I expect Street Dogs would impress far more than they do today but aside from songs like 'Fading American Dream' they just aren't up to the high standards set by the rest of the bill.
