Fun Frolics
Feisty electro pop stars Robots In Disguise are best known for their varied appearances in The Mighty Boosh and their music represents exactly the same kind of playful and extravagant aesthetic as the show itself. Dressed in cunningly couteured school girl uniforms, the girls cavort eagerly around the stage stirring up the crowd who, mostly adorned with glow sticks from the previous band, lap it right up. The show is more of a pantomime than a serious gig with slapstick style arguments between the band, whistles and whoops; it's probably lucky that the band are so fun because their singing ability is slightly questionable. The cover of 'You Really Got Me' is a highlight but the harmonies seem to slide in and out of tune, however this matters not as they quickly whip out a recorder for an impromptu solo.
Recent single, 'The Sex Has Made Me Stupid' is a frothy tune that's slightly sweeter than the majority of the shouted electro anthems and receives a good welcome, however it's, 'Turn It Up' from the pair's 2005 album, 'Get Rid' that really evokes a dancefloor frenzy. If you're looking for electro fun with plenty of spunk, then Robots In Disguise will show you a good time, just don't expect them to be pitch perfect!
