Boys Like Girls
To open for a band like Plain White T’s you have to have the confidence and musical ability to sustain and entertain a manic and passionate crowd. Boys Like Girls were able to do just this. The lads have been rocking the scene for a while now, which could be why some of the girls at the front basically knew all the words to every track. But it was very easy to see why adoring fans follow them.
Confidence is a must when it comes to working the stage. If you haven’t got the confidence and buoyancy to amuse the crowd, then you may as well give it up already. Lead singer Martin Johnson has all the confidence any band needs. He could be considered overconfident and a little cocky at times, but this isn’t a bad thing when it comes to the music industry. You need to be able to sick to your guns and follow those dreams that have been pestering your heart since childhood.
All the way from Boston, Boys Like Girls bring some loud and emotionally charge rock anthems that aren’t afraid to knock a girl off her feet and a guy to his. With raging pop hooks and tracks of many natures the band had all listening with curiosity and attentiveness. Their stage performance was of the highest standards. The band was rocking out for the majority of the night, but there were the few occasions where slower numbers took over. ‘Thunder’ saw Martin take to the stage solo bleeding out his heart, then being accompanied by fellow band mates to bring the climax all the way. The concluding song for the night, ‘The Great Escape’ was an excellent end to the set.
This was an exceptional performance from Boys Like Girls, but next time lads, keep the swearing to a minimum; there are 14 year olds in the building.
