The Script on tour with the Hoosiers at the Shepard's Bush Empire
Support acts have it hard. They go on stage before a main act and must entertain a crowd that was never there to see them. The Script however should feel relieved, as even though the crowd was waiting patiently for the Hoosiers, they have instantly become fans of this amazing band.
Ireland has given us many talented musicians over the years, and now comes this trio. The Script has an amazing sound, something I haven’t heard so well since Ross Copperman’s ‘Welcome To Reality’. It is the blend of acoustic guitars and keys that gave me shivers, made my mouth drop and my mind concentrate. There was no electric guitar, and it was this that gave the performance less of a hard rock feel and more soulful pop melodies with a hip hop lyrical flow and anthemic rock elements.
The vocals contribution came from Danny. As he sings his Irish accent seems to dissipate and the energy takes over, so much so that I was shocked at his ability to keep a note going. At some points he played keys while singing, but at others his enthusiasm took over, his arms waving around, bouncing to the music as he tries to get the crowd ready to roll. On ‘The Man Who Couldn’t Be Loved’ backing vocals by Glen and Mark really stood out.
The performances of all the tracks were breathtaking. From the calming verse to upbeat chorus of ‘Break Even’, the instrumental of ‘Talk You Down’ and the ballad beginning of ‘The End Were I Begin’. As well as making quite an entrance (a better one than the main act actually), the finale was one that took the breath away from many of the people in the crowd with its multi-coloured flashing lights. The end of the set hyped the crowd up to the extent that they had their feet banging on the floor.
The debut single ‘We Cry’ is released next month and it is going to be a great way for them to introduce themselves to the world. Its performance in this set was amazing and had the crowd hooked with its fast paced lyrics and amazing beat. The Script is a band that is going to make an impact on the music industry.
