A Very Long Summer?

A few years ago The Bravery were pitted against The Killers in an eye liner at ten paces battle that saw Brandon Flowers self claim whatever victory there was. Fast forward a couple of years and The Bravery are back after a brief spell out of the UK music scene, supposedly fresher and wearing less make up, with a spot not only the European leg of Project Revolution but also the much larger US version and going by the Milton Keynes leg, the Americans could be set for a drawn out day in the sun.

Half heartedly making their way onto stage, The Bravery look very inch a band that have already been defeated as front man Sam Endicott leads his band into a lacklustre rendition of ‘Fearless’ that fails to enthuse the crowd. And unfortunately things don’t get any better as songs start to blur into one another and the band appear to merely go through the motions. Lacking the fighting bite that usually comes with a Bravery performance; Endicott speaks very little, mumbling communicating with the crowd who quickly switch off, many choosing now to venture off for food.

Surprisingly it’s the inclusion of new material off their second album, ‘The Sun And The Moon’ that conjures any response from the crowd as ‘Time Won’t Let Me Go’ resounds around the bowl with radio hooks by the bucket load. ‘Bad Sun’ injects a touch of dreamy calm to proceedings, ushered out of the way by an obligatory rendition of ‘Honest Mistake’ that even manages to have lost its venom tinged anger in the open air. Lets hope things get better before the next leg of Project Revolution takes hold or this could just be the start of a very long summer.
