Nuts

I miss the start of Flyin Ike due to clashes in the schedule and they are already in full flow by the time I venture into the Rock Sound Cave.

What an odd bunch these fellows are, they sound like the Cardiacs crashing into Devo all mashed up with a dose of hardcore! As you’d expect from that description there are lots of off beat and quirky rhythms, which keep it interesting but the down side being that they don’t always let the songs flow very well.

The vocals come from the dual pairing of Ashley Cleaver and Rachel Grainger Jones, the latter providing the melody, the former the grunt and general strangeitude. They work the crowd well and the dynamics between the two work quite well but they only just get away with incorporating a cover of Girl’s Aloud ‘Love Machine’ into the set. This is the kind of music that you have to be in the right mood to fully appreciate, at which point it’s great, if you’re not quite on their wavelength though the songs aren’t that memorable and the crazy rhythms will probably drive you nuts! Pretty entertaining though and worth another look should the chance arise.
