Perfect Pop Openers

Cornish trio Rosie and The Goldbug open the Sunset Arena, tucked away in the woods, on the first day of Latitude Festival. It may not seem the most prestigious set but they manage to draw quite a crowd who seem to enjoy their playful pop. Tunes like, 'Butterfly', with its operatic vocal "oh oh"s and twinkling keyboards fascinate as singer and keyboardist Rosie manages to add a theatrical element even whilst playing with both hands. The band's pop music is very much kitsch, with the group adopting names like 'Pixie' and 'Plums' and the keyboards taking on a very 80's sound, but it's all very well done and the kind of music that's perfect to listen to whether you know the band or not. Single, 'War Of The Roses' is an energetic high point as Rosie leaves the keyboards to dance wildly centre stage to the buoyant beats. Certain tunes even come complete with falsetto vocals and fluttering keys, adding to the perfect retro pop feel.

The band are great stuff live as they're simply so lively and the music has bright beats that get a crowd moving easily, although this may get a little repetitive on record. Their performance is definitely likely to encourage those in the crowd to check them out and makes them one to watch over the latter half of 2008.
