Captivating Indie
Indie duo Slow Club are playing in their ideal setting amongst the shady woods of Henham Park. Their lively, countrified indie rock finds the perfect balance between waking up tired campers and tiring them out as jangly vocal melodies charm the crowd and the pair banter and berate each other like the best of friends. The band come across as quirky from the off with Rebecca playing a curious mix of percussion at the front of the stage, unlike the usual full kit set up and less privileged position that most drummers face. Rebecca also picks up guitar for a sweet song that provides gentle analysis of a relationship.
'Me And You' makes a welcome appearance early into the set with its upbeat, racing vocals full of folky fun, while a more wistful tune about sleeptalking lulls the crowd with its aching and delicate melody. The duo both take on vocal duties, moving between rousing and delicate in a flash. The mellow, sentimental tone of 'Trophy Room' makes it another highlight as it suits the chilled festival feeling very well indeed. While sets on the Sunrise Arena may not be the longest, Slow Club manage to make a positive impression with their blend of jangly, folk-styled indie.
