Rising From The Ashes

2008 has been a hectic year for Slaves To Gravity. Formed out of the remains of The*Ga*Ga*s only two years ago, the London band have been touted left right and centre as the ones to watch. This year alone Tommy Gleeson and his band have been touring non stop, supporting everyone from Brigade to Goo Goo Dolls to doing their own headline shows and even making an appearance at the odd festival or two. And now its Aiden’s turn to take Slaves To Gravity out and hopefully get some more ears tuned into

With the lights virtually off, it’s the right kind of atmosphere that greets Slaves To Gravity to the stage as the first strains of their mood fuelled grunge with a powerful kick of a twist whispers through the room. A waif like figure in the centre of the stage, Gleeson doesn’t look strong enough to pack much of a punch but looks can be deceiving. With a richness that seems to ooze between the chunky guitar riffs, Gleeson instantly injects a magnitude of irresistible force into each line as he eases from a husky whisper to anthem striving bouts with captivating ease. Sticking very much to tracks from their debut album, ‘Scatter The Crow’, Slaves To Gravity offer a set full of pure rock passion, charging through their set like the well toured band they are without appearing drained or bored. From the sinister menace of ‘Heaven Is A Lie’ as it thumps its way threatingly around the room to the crispness of the hook driven ‘Big Red’, Slaves To Gravity offer songs to blast you against the walls before tenderly peeling you off, leaving the energy charge of ‘Mr Regulator’ to close proceedings with an undiluted wash of adrenaline.
