Alien Ant Farm

This nu-metal band originally broke in to the mainstream with their cover of Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal. This allowed them to re-release their single "Movies" and take the world by storm during the peak of the nu-metal wave in 2001. After a break from touring due to a tour bus crash last year they are playing for their second time publically this year having warmed up on Tuesday at London's Mean Fiddler.

The set is a cut down version of their Tuesday set - right down to the crowd interaction which you can tell is scripted. Irrespective of what the crowd want when asked by the band they decide to play what is already written on their set list. The new tracks of their latest album TruAnt have matured and have a warmer and more funk feel to them. The crowd respond well to all of the material but most of all to the 2001 smash hits with people leaving after the end of Smooth Criminal in flurries.

The performance of this band is mediocre and their crowd interaction seems fake but the sound they produce rich and full, whilst maintaing the feel of being live. Another band to proove nu-metal has had its day or will the new sound work for them? Only time will tell.
