The Blackout shine at the Forum

The Blackout has given their fair share of great performances, but their recent set at the HMV Forum would probably outshine all of them.

Being a weekend the crowd were already excited and hyped up from the heat, but as the Blackout took to the stage, the atmosphere exploded, drinks went flying and fans went nuts. For some strange and bizarre reason someone thought it appropriate to bring a balloon along. This may have impressed and entertained the crowd as they enjoyed passing it back and forth but Sean Smith was less than impressed and confiscated it, for a while at least.

The crowd were enthralled by the Blackout, hypnotised to some degree. While they performed, ‘Prepare For A Wound’ and ‘Hard Slamming’ they demanded the crowd jump and they jumped. When The Blackout stopped singing mid way through ‘Save Ourselves’ and insisted the entire venue get to the floor, threatening to kick your ass out if you did not comply, the crowd obeyed.

When The Blackout hit the stage they have such real qualities. Many bands put on a persona while performing, set themselves an image they think fans appreciate seeing and would find enjoyment in. The Blackout keep it real and are themselves while performing, even if that includes telling the fans to fuck off and then apologising to their parents for swearing. The astonishing thing I can’t get over is how Sean and Gavin don’t seriously get hurt with their microphone antics. Throwing them up in their air and catching them and swinging them around their necks, they are lucky they don’t hang themselves.

Between songs from their first release ‘The Blackout! The Blackout! The Blackout!,’ tracks from their debut album ‘We Are The Dynamite’ and songs from ‘The Best In Town’, their recent album, The Blackout gave a great performance that literally made my ears ring with its loud, powerful and excitable songs. The Blackout possibly gave me one of the best five gigs I’ve attended so applause to the lads.
