Camera Action
Liverpool’s Screaming Lights have been doing rather well for themselves lately, with a host of high profile dates and some very positive press. Today we find them on the BBC Introducing stage in front of a modest crowd.
Front man Jay Treadell has a good voice and they make an immediate impression with some good dynamics. The sound is very much in the indie camp but with the odd hook and twist that thankfully takes them away from the driven indie sound that is so common these days. Treadell is animated and puts in a good performance but the rest of the band all look rather moody and barely move, which makes for a pretty dull performance overall.
Treadell switches to keyboards and that adds an extra element to their arsenal, giving the songs a fuller feel. It’s a short set but it’s enough to be able to say that Screaming Lights are a good band, the better songs are well structured and up there with anything else in this genre, they just need to weed out the filler and I expect we’ll be hearing a lot more of these guys.
