End of the World Show

Senser bring their fusion of metal and rap to headline the Scuzz stage on Saturday at Hellfire Fest, not that you would know it was a headline set from the pathetically small crowd, which only numbers about 20! That they feel somewhat out of place on the bill is evidenced throughout the set by singer Heitham being constantly amused that they are on the same bill as Saxon and Anvil. So a low turnout it may be but the advantage of this is that we get a much better view than we did a few weeks ago in Manchester on their headline tour.

It’s a strong start with ‘Resistance Now’, ‘State of Mind’ and ‘End of the World Show’ and to their credit they don’t let the situation affect the performance, the whole band visibly enjoying what they do and really getting into it. As they pull out another classic in the form of ‘Switch’ it has to be said that vocalist Kirsten is on it tonight; her voice much more prominent in the mix than in Manchester and the way she works the stage is undeniably sexy in the way you only get when a performer is totally in tune with the music. It’s captivating to watch and is exemplified by the hypnotic beats that have the small but enthusiastic crowd nodding their heads.

It’s good to hear the new material live again with ‘So Refined’ and ‘2 3 Clear’ falling either side of old favourite ‘No Comply’ and the more we hear it the better it gets. Heitham thanks the crowd for making what could‘ve been a disaster into "something" before the devastating finale of ‘Age of Panic' and ‘Eject'. Senser really are on top of their game at the moment, heavy touring making them into a very tight unit and it’s a real shame that what has been the best set of the day so far goes unwatched by the vast majority.
