All you could want from a support act
YouMeAtSix have come a long way over the last couple of years, growing up both physically and musically at a rapid rate. Now, just days before the release of their second album ‘Hold Me Down’, the youngsters find themselves as the main support act for the currently world dominating Paramore in the Cardiff International Arena.
The leap from smaller venues to stadiums is a difficult one, one that not all bands can manage. To be honest, I had my doubts that the youthful rockers could fill such a large stage and put on a good show. However, I was well and truly proven wrong.
Frontman Josh Franceschi prowled the stage stirring up the massive crowd with ease, clearly in his element. The movement and energy of the whole band was infectious, delving into an already impressively strong back catalogue with favourites ‘Save It For The Bedroom’, ‘Jealous Minds Think Alike’ and in particular ‘Finders Keepers’.
Some new material was given an outing such as ‘The Consequence’ and ‘Underdog’, both of which received a warm response and bodes well for the upcoming album release.
The highlight however, was the ever-beautiful acoustic number ‘Always Attract’, on which Paramore’s Hayley Williams appeared to sing the female parts. In an arena this large, the effect was astounding and jaw-dropping. Fantastic.
All in all, a job very well done by a band who are maturing nicely and look set to become a real force on the UK rock scene. As far as support acts go, they got it just right.
