On the right track but needs some oomph!
To this day, bands that use a laptop packed with dance beats and electronic rhythms on stage are pretty much going to have difficulties winning over a crowd. The audience come to a show to see you perform, play music and sing. When you have a laptop next to you and keep flicking back and forth towards it, its gets a little tiresome.
Credit must be given to two-man band Lights Go Blue as they do try to win the crowd over with their own blend of electronic-pop. When on stage at the Barfly recently supporting Canterbury, the duo consisting of Raj on drums and Alex on guitar, aimed to do the best they could to make their music catchy and enjoyable to listen to. But when you watch one fella sitting at a drum kit occasionally leaning over to play synth and the other standing at a microphone with a guitar in hand, the sounds and visuals just do not work. Even closing your eyes and imagining a whole heap of instruments and people on stage creating quite a performance doesn’t help as eventually you are sucked back to reality where an electronic pop playing duo just do not cut it.
Musically the lads create a sound you can (to an extent) dance to, sing to and enjoy. But there is no energy when it comes to performing live. If they liven up the stage it means the crowd will get more hyped and much more excited about seeing them again.
