Twenty Twenty play the O2 Islington Academy
The band posted on their Myspace that their London gig was going to consist of something very special and when you hear this you cannot help but be over come with excitement. Unfortunately, the excitement was short lived.
The energetic Twenty Twenty is reminiscent of the youthful ambition that You Me At Six contained when they got their first taste of the industry. While performing their “Old School” songs as well as some they have recently written and recorded, they were obviously having the times of their lives with big smiles all round. Their performance was energetic, incredibly lively and very engaging…however it seemed a little too perfect and effortless. They made the night very enjoyable, got into the crowd and sang their hearts out with harmonies that sounded really connected, but it was missing the roughness that makes a set live and that much more enjoyable and memorable.
There were only two real differences this gig had to others. The first was the background footage that the guys produced; this included the opening video for ‘Get Down’ as well as the lads running from the stage to their dressing room before the encore. The second came when the encore began; dancers appeared on stage to accompany the lads as they performed ‘Get Down’.
Considering the lads have yet to release an album, there were many banners floating around which the lads were very appreciative of and even more screaming teenage girls having one of the most memorable nights of their young lives. The lads are back on tour later in the year and hopefully with more material and more stage time achieved by then, we can expect something a little more rugged on the table.
