Forever the Sickest Kids rock the Borderline
Incredible, energetic, lively, astounding and breathtaking are only a few of the words to describe the SOLD OUT performance by Texan rock band Forever The Sickest Kids.
Having been together for a while now and worked on numerous releases, these guys have a bond so tight that when they perform they are bale to bounce off each others energies as well as those the crowd were expressing to create something special; a intimate and very exciting set. They have supported the likes of All Time Low, The Rocket Summer, Metro Station and The Maine to name but a few that have certainly rubbed off on these guys. But it was this one and only headline show at London’s BORDERLINE that gave them their own warm welcome.
Their set kicked off well with drummer Kyle getting so excited he smashed through one of the drums within a few songs. With it replaced they continued on a path that got everyone dancing, bopping along to the songs and would later see the stage stormed and the lads probably groped and battered in more ways than one; lead vocalist Jonathan was literally yanked from the stage into the crowd narrowly missing crashing his head on a concrete pillar. Packed with memorable catchy choruses that are still making the rounds in my mind, anthemic riffs and strong united harmonies, as well as a joint personality that dictates authority as well as demands fun be had by all, this was one of the best experiences 2010 has given music lovers so far. As well as Jonathan’s slightly loopy interaction with the microphone, bassist Austin Bello was another slightly off the wall character, with a passion for pulling faces and sticking out his tongue.
To be a successful musician on the other side of the world requires a combination of great music, perseverance and returning once in a while for a gig. This is the reason why many US bands have trouble cracking the UK. FTSK are six young, gifted, passionate, ambitious and highly spirited musicians. If they continue on their path, returning every now and again for some more energetic and intimate gigs, they will soon be heading for larger venues as they gain the prominence they deserve.
Forever The Sickest Kids are on stage supporting You Me At Six on their UK tour at the minute and they are a band not to be missed.
