Last year's star find

This was my best discovery of Sonisphere 2009 and one of the smaller acts I've been looking forward to most. Last year The Defiled ripped the Jager Stage a new hole. Their support was immense and the circle pit was huge. This year they were upgraded to the Bohemia Stage, but unfortunately this came with an early slot. This was a huge mistake in my opinion. In theory this is a great slot. Just after the feel good show put on by Henry Rollins and Madina Lake on the main stage. The theory was that loads of people would stay. They didn't.

The result is not quite what could have been expected. The early slot has a definite effect on the band, as they all seem more restrained that last year. The sound engineer seems to get the settings wrong and the PA seems not capable of handling the onslaught.

The crowd is not getting into this at all and some must be wondering what the fuss is all about. Last year we had this massive circle pit and now we have a few heads nodding. Vocalist, Stitch D, begs three songs in "Come one let's see some dancing!" and this gets a small pit starting.

New bassist, Vincent, is introduced and keyboardist, The A.V.D., dish some Jagermeister out in front and Stitch D exclaims once again "I know this is early, but come on!" to get the party started. New bassist, Vincent, stage dives with his bass and all. Again this causes a little excitement, but soon dies away again.

The Defiled put on an ace show and they did nothing wrong. They were booked for the wrong slot and not promoted enough. Last year they had loads of fans supporting them, this year it seemed different. I would give the band a 10/13 for their showmanship, but sometimes even the best shows will fail. Sorry boys, hope to see you again next year, but in a better slot.
