Scrathing that rocking itch
When we received The Scatch's recently released album "DIY", the PR company sent a tiny tub of Marmite with it using their slogan you will love it or hate it. On cd this is true, it was a case of hit and miss with the staff here, so it was with trepidation that we went to check them out live.
The four piece soon proved what fears we held about their musical abilities were soon buried as they produced a short set full of enjoyable rocking tunes with a slight twist to them. The majority of the band look as though they have been knocking around a fair bit but the energy on stage proved they had more to give than some of the youngsters, particularly the lead singer who found himself rolling around the floor between the crowds feet towards the end, which surely must have messed up his white jacket. With 3 guitarists the sound could easily have been out of time but no, it was spot on and credit must go to the sound engineer for getting it great for the first band on, the band appreciated it.
The crowd took their time to warm to them but by the end of the set, a busy 93 Feet East were allowing The Scratch to seduce them. The reaction from the first to last track could not have been different. It takes a lot to win over any crowd who have no idea who you are, especially in London who are spoilt for choice on gigs but this five piece did it.
Don't judge The Scratch until you see these guys live, now to get this sound onto cd.
