The Hype Theory take on the O2 Academy 2 Islington

Essex based quintet The Hype Theory has been playing together for the last two years, creating their own blend of powerpop punk rock anthems, many of which can be found on their debut album Glory Days which is out now. However as you well know, listening to an album and seeing a band perform live on stage are two different experiences, so when The Hype Theory took to the O2 Academy 2 Islington stage, expectations were high for good reason.

The female fronted band took to the stage and gave it their all, stunning the crowd with their catchy beats, infectious melodies by the dozen, full and light-hearted sing-a-long lyrics, topped off by the melodious vocal contribution of Katy Jackson, who is capable of adapting her voice to the needs of each and every song. There were moments when the crowd were encouraged to sing-along and start moving, which a couple of individuals did at the top of their lungs with fists punching the air in motion, so there are certainly some Hype Theory admirers out there. Of all the tracks they performed a few really stood out, such as These Are The Times, the slower Where We Started and most notably You're Going Home Alone a track that really got the core of the crowd chanting the title along.

After this performance and having been described by Big Cheese as "a healthy dosage of sugary youth-rock" is there any wonder they were chosen to be one of the headline acts on this tour? Hopefully we will be seeing them on tour a great deal more in the future.
