New Riot cause mayhem at the O2 Academy 2 Islington
New Riot has toured all over the globe, from the USA to Canada and relentlessly across Europe, but they were back on home turf recently stopping by London's O2 Academy 2 Islington to blow the crowd away with their unique blend of brass driven pop punk.
The guys were playing as joint headliners for the Big Cheese Tour 2012, and although they were the last band on for the evening, they were the ones to get the ball rolling and the crowd awoke with their upbeat party style. These guys pounced on stage and were ready to take a hold of your consciousness for the night.
The six piece ska punk band performed tracks like Punk Radio from their debut album Riot.Sleep.Repeat as well as Girl From Hell and Land Of Opportunity taken from the bands upcoming EP Raising The Stakes. Performing such upbeat, light hearted tunes gave New Riot the opportunity to go all out and be as energetic as they could while performing, while also getting the crowd moving in ways that no other band had been able to do this evening.
The combination of bouncy melodies, brass segments and catchy lyrics was like a summer breeze piercing the atmosphere in the venue. These tracks could wash away your troubles and set you off on a summer day fantasy forgetting where you are and who you were with, just drifting away to the sound of New Riot. The brass elements really made a difference and appeared to have a positive effect on the crowd. Although the performance had the tough pop punk melodies driven by the guitars, the brass seemed to make everything more fun, with a light natured appeal it gave everyone a spring in their step.
Let's hope there are more tour dates in the works for later in the year as New Riot put on a set not to be missed!
