Rocking Ghosts
Since becoming our Band of the Month, GHXST have been impressing quite a lot of the industry just recently, getting a brief mention in NME and performing live on the enjoyable Artrocker Radio show.
The New York trio played an extremely impressive 7 song set at London's Birthdays and the small dark basement venue added to the ambience of the gig, making it intimate, loud and perfect for the noise grunge meets shoegaze sound GHXST create.
Playing to a movie backdrop and with the assistance of the laptop creating intros and effects GHXST proved they are fully deserving of all the praise they have been receiving. Fronted by Shelly X, whose dreamy vocals coupled with hers and Chris Wild's guitars used to go for the maximum distortion possible and quite frankly it sounds just as awesome live as it does from the studio recordings.
Opening with Bad Blood it was clear that this was going to be one enjoyable set. New single Black Camaro and recent free download Doomgirl were particular highlights as was the Rob Zombie cover Dragula, which may have been lost on a few of the crowd but was very much appreciated here. Deth Valley closed off the set and sadly pretty much the tour with only one more show remaining.
GHXST are truly amazing. They sound amazing on record, they are amazing live and if there was any justice in the world they will soon be getting the level of exposure as bands like A Place To Bury Strangers and they would deserve it. Now how do we convince GHXST to come back over again soon?
