The First showcase their new material
Cambridgeshire melodic rockers The First spent this better part of the year working hard to create the follow up album to their 2010 debut Swimming With Sharks. To demonstrate some of their achievements, they took to the Upstairs stage at Islington's Garage and received quite a welcome.
Although the venue has quite a small capacity, there were wall to wall people at the time The First took to the stage and they really made an effort to pull everyone close, particularly those that tended to hang back out of the light. Having already shared the stage with the likes of Deaf Havana and Lower Than Atlantis to name but a few, these lads have certainly picked up a thing or two along the way and it was brilliant to see the support that turned out for their own headlining show.
From the initial start to the concluding end, the entire set consisted of pounding guitar riffs, hooks a plenty and some magnificent musical performances. Each of the individual elements were able to come together to create the bands own unique style of much, that takes inspiration from hard-core, punk and rock elements. One of the high points to the set was the bands performance of their recent single, Take It Back. Consisting of a toe-tapping rhythm, some intense playing and a chorus you couldn't help but scream out loud, this one got the crowd reeved up to hear more. Their performance of this high energy single was outstanding and really set the place alight with admiration from the crowd; the vocals at this point particularly made the track much more attention grabbing.
Having literally just signed a new record deal, this set was the opportunity for the band to celebrate in the best way they know how - to rock out and they did just that!
