The Morning After play in Islington
Room Thirteen first got a taste of Essex-based quartet The Morning After when they performed at Camden's Underworld back in 2008. However, now seeing them on stage four years later, they are unrecognisable. Although their 80's hairstyles may have gone out of the window, their unique style elements remain.
The Morning After recently took to the upstairs stage at The Garage in Islington as support for Cambridgeshire rockers The First. Fusing together elements of modern day metal and a classic 80s style, the band produce a sound and energy like no other band has yet to achieve so well. These lads gave an electric performance that wasn't special, didn't consist of any special lighting or smoke machines but was a simple demonstration of talent that went down a treat as they performed tracks such as The Witch is On My Back and America from their album Legacy among many other tunes. They edged on the crowd with a snippet of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, unfortunately they never really went into depth and that was something that would have been quite intriguing.
Guitarist Phil Maher was able to really demonstrate what he was able to achieve as he performed some fast-paced finger work through the guitar solos. Vocals, as always were supplied by the incredible Sam Ryder, who on this occasion didn't have guitar in hand, but took to simply moving about the stage with microphone in hand.
The Morning After made quite an impression with this set so let us hope there are more on the way.
