Patent Pending - One Big Happy, Manchester
Having supported Bowling For Soup in the USA earlier this year, Patent Pending now find themselves back on tour with Bowling For Soup, but this time they're in the UK. Despite never having played a show in the UK before this tour, a large percentage of the audience were singing along with Patent Pending's set.
Patent Pending's set was high energy to say the least; these guys didn't stand still for a second. Amongst all their jokes and running around the stage like maniacs, they packed their set with well-preformed and well-structured catchy songs.
One of the highlights of their set was a cover of I Want It That Way by the Backstreet Boys, which they played while the crowd created a wall of hugs and high fives, which if you're a wimp like me, is a hell of a lot less intimidating than the wall of death.
Another high point in their set was Douchebag, which was a huge hit with the crowd. Their in your face energy and perfect blend of melodic pop-punk appealed to everyone in the room and it was hard to tell who was having more fun; the crowd or Patent Pending.
Patent Pending's set can only be described as a nuclear explosion of energy and while sometimes a band's over enthusiasm can be annoying, these five lads were incredibly charming and extremely likeable.
Patent Pending proved to be the perfect opening act and thanks to the crowd's response to them, I doubt it will be long before we see them back in England.
