Un-believable

One of the bands I was eagerly awaiting to hear (and see) was Moritz. It's been yonks (don't think I've used this word since school, which is appropriate as the last time these guys were together I was in school!). Moritz, had some great songs back in the day but for some reason didn't quite make it originally. Thankfully that didn't stop them from having another go as 2011's Undivided album proved.

Singer Pete Scallan commented that its been 27 yrs since their last proper gig, and you wouldn't have known at all as they were one of the most polished bands of the day and were definitely out to enjoy themselves. They were high up on the bill on merit as they songs testify to the fact. They have matured since the 80s into a might fine hit making machine. Not hits in the financial sense, but every song is instantly memorable.

Some bands take a while to get the audience warmed up but not these guys, they went from 0-60 by the end of the first riff with the crowd. Pete (vox) and all the guys were in excellent form, from the beginning of the first bar, right to the very end. I loved Undivided and have not yet heard their latest album , but the new songs I caught, Remember Yesterday, SOS, Can't Hide My Heart, Gonna Lose Her and Amber Lee all show that Moritz have taken an even bigger step in the right direction since Undivided.

Should Have Been Gone was dedicated to a Welsh mate of mine and he couldn't have looked prouder if he tried. Who Do You Run To was an old Greg Hart solo song that has been given the Moritz treatment, and Pete dedicated a song to his daughter for her birthday, the inappropriately named Without Love! The only other thing that could have been more inappropriately titled is if Pete dedicated a song to her called "I'm not your Dad!". I'm sure he loves her!

Moritz for me were my band of Day 2 on the AOR main stage. My only regret, they didn't play Undivided! You can only fit so many great songs into 60 mins and something had to give. Maybe I will get to hear it at Skyfest in September.
