Bowling For Soup - An Acoustic Farewell Live At Union Chapel
The Union Chapel was virtually sold out for Bowling For Soup's acoustic farewell show.
The crowd were quietly settled in their pews when Bowling For Soup, well, half of them; Jaret and Erik, hit the stage armed with their acoustic guitars. The acoustics in the Union Chapel are fantastic so it seemed like the perfect venue to host a farewell show.
Jaret and Erik were their usual jovial selves and being in a chapel had no effect of their potty mouths, as their fans have come to expect there was plenty of swearing in between songs.
The guys were in fine form; they received plenty of laughs at their jokes and sounded great musically and vocally meaning they received rapturous applause after each and every song.
Bowling For Soup songs work extremely well on an acoustic level, it was nice to hear them stripped back and without the crowd screaming along. During the songs, the crowd was incredibly quiet almost as if the crowd was in awe of the two Texans on stage. There was no sign of Chris, but Gary stepped out momentarily to deliver fresh drinks to Jaret and Erik.
The highlight of my night was Patent Pending's Marc Kantor delivering a Delicious Gary (a vodka, cranberry, diet Sprite mix) to me while sat in the pews, just kidding, musical highlights came in the form of The Bitch Song, Ohio (Come Back To Texas) and Tonight's The Night - one of Erik's solo songs which was performed while Jaret took a bathroom break.
The show at the Union Chapel seemed like the perfect way to kick off Bowling For Soup's farewell tour, the guys sounded great and the crowd was extremely receptive. After a show like that, it makes it seem even more unlikely that this is actually a "farewell" tour, while the band may not be here annually as we have come to expect, I'd put money on them being back within three years.
