Keep on Truckin'

Being the sole support act always poses a slightly sterner task of getting the masses warmed up, but tonight in support of Vista Chino, Monster Truck seriously made a lasting impression, way beyond getting the crowd simply in the mood.

The energetic, passionate and just downright impressive performance had heads nodding across The Roundhouse as Monster Truck ripped through tracks from their recent release Furiosity. The main thing that hit you during the performance was just how good the sound was in the venue as well. Each element of the band could be heard clearly, whether it was Jeremy Widerman's fantastic guitar work or Brandon Bliss' atmospheric work on keys. As well as hitting the nail on the head as far as performance goes, they fulfilled their role in the support slot brilliantly, getting the crowd participation going on tracks like Old Train. It was fitting to see them in this support role because you can see in their music the kind of influence Kyuss has had. Bluesy tangents, heavy riffs and memorable vocals are the name of the game with this band, and just their general vibe makes for an enjoyable and fun live show.

The t-shirts at the merch stall read "Don't Fuck With The Truck" and on tonight's evidence that is fair enough.
