Hollywood Undead - Day Of The Dead Tour 2014
American rap rockers Hollywood Undead made their eagerly awaited return to London last night, after their show, which was scheduled to take place at Islington Academy was upgraded to Brixton Academy. You could feel the excitement building as the crowd awaited the masked mob to hit the stage. The wait was soon over and deafening screams erupted across Brixton Academy, while the show was not sold out, the crowd made enough noise to replicate a sold out show.
Band members were wearing their unique masks as they hit the stage, some of which had neon lights embedded within them. It made an interesting spectacle but it was hard to engage with the band as the masks put up a barrier. The masks were soon lost and it seemed to change the dynamic in the room; the party vibe suddenly intensified.
Hollywood Undead seamlessly switched from clean vocals, to screamo, to rap; the band proved themselves to be extremely talented in the vocal department, although at times it appeared that not all of their microphones could be heard. The band also did a great job of mixing crunching guitars and pounding drumlines with smooth keyboard melodies. Hollywood Undead's songwriting and performing style is definitely attention grabbing. Highlights of their set included We Are, Hear Me Now and Everywhere I Go.
Overall, Hollywood Undead put on a great show, there wasn't too much crowd interaction but there was a party atmosphere from start to finish, with 90 percent of the crowd madly dancing and jumping from the get go. The masked marvels proved themselves to be talented performers and are definitely a band you should try and catch live. If you go to a Hollywood Undead show with an open mind you will find something appealing about their set whatever your musical preferences.
