SOLID GOLD ONCE AGAIN
As you may well have worked out in recent times, we’re huge fans of Turbowolf here at Room Thirteen, and with each live performance that love grows more and more. Their latest album Two Hands has seen them propel into new territory, with radio play and a tour of the United States building up their reputation in the last few months. Their style is eclectic and the frenzied nature of their music lends itself to a live performance which is both energetic and exciting from start to finish. This is all down to the talent on stage though, with front man Chris Georgiadis leading in only a way that he can, Turbowolf smashed through a set which cements the view that they truly are one of the best live bands around at the moment.
Opening the set with Ancient Snake, Rabbit’s Foot and Seven Severed Heads meant this was only going to go one way wasn’t it? Pints flew in the air, heads started rolling and Islington Academy played its part as the intimate little sweatbox. For a venue which at times can struggle with their sound set up, everything seemed to be on point with only the backing vocals needing to be turned up a notch or two. Speaking of backing vocals as well, as the band reached the epic Rich Gift in the set they were able to invite on stage London based Chantal Brown from Vodun to take up vocal duties she provided on the album version. Watching both Brown and Georgiadis bouncing off each other in tandem made for a special moment indeed.
