KVELERTAAAK
Kvelertak have always been one of the most exciting live bands on the planet. Their first two records have drawn in high praise from across figures in the music scene, and the anticipation for their third is absolutely massive. With that said, the band were chosen to go out on tour with the mighty Slayer and Anthrax throughout November, breaking up dates on that tour with their own smaller headline club shows. Whether the band picked the venue (Oslo) because it’s the same name as the capital city of their beloved Norway or not is something that can be debated, but one thing is for sure Oslo in Hackney will never be the same again after the kind of scenes which erupted here on a rainy Sunday night.
As a venue it was amusing to see the hipster location being taken over by fervent Metal fans ready to allow all hell to break loose. Catching the end of the support act, it was clear though that straight away the sound in here was absolutely on point. After the tight confines of the venue filled out, there was barely space to breath and as Kvelertak hit the stage all hell broke loose. Apenbaring still serves as an absolutely brilliant opener with Erlend Hjelvik surveying the scene with that owl covering his face. With it being their own headline show, the band were able to pack far more tracks than they’ve been able to in a supporting slot with Slayer, something you felt almost added to the aggression of the performance. All the big hitters were here, Blodtorst, Bruane Benn
The band also used the show as an opportunity to treat the fans to a new track which in itself sounded absolutely massive - the fact the crowd lost their heads for this as much as some of the big hitters seemed to delight the members in Kvelertak and has certainly helped add to the anticipation for album number three. Through continuing to provide live performances of this calibre night after night, the future is Kvelertak's.
