Sum 41 Return To The UK!
Fans of Canadian rockers Sum 41 were devastated back in 2012 when they were forced to cancel their headline shows due to frontman Deryck Whibley injuring his back. However, four years on and upon the announcement that Sum 41 were to be returning to the UK, especially after all the issues they'd had in the interim, fans were justifiably stoked!
Sum 41 first gained the eyes and ears of many when they released In Too Deep and Fat Lip 15 years ago and with album after album gaining the public vote and surpassing everything that has been thrown in their direction, they are fighting fit and with the recent return of Dave "Brownsound" on guitar, Sum 41 look set to be better than ever before.
This performance at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town was the last night of the tour and it went off with a bang! Setting the stage alight with their anthems Sum 41 kicked off their incredible night in true style with Over My Head. From the minute they took to the stage there wasn’t an individual in the crowd that could keep their body still. Whether it was tapping your feet along with Still Waiting, thumping your head to We’re All to Blame, waving your arms along with Pieces or screaming along with Motivation, each track sent your pulse racing faster than usual. Within the set was material performed from each of the bands releases and even included a rendition of We Will Rock You. The bands performance of What We’re All About had the entire venue shaking with fans shouting out the chorus ”Rock! It’s what we’re all about, it’s what we live for c’mon should it out” and of course no set from Sum 41 would be complete without Fat Lip and this concluded a perfect and memorable set.
Many times you will see a live band and they sound extremely different to the recorded version, voices choke and the melodies sound off. With Sum 41 however, they sound just as good, if not better live as they do recorded. Deryck’s vocals are spot on and his unique tones ravish the songs and had fans screaming along with the lyrics. At several point during the show Deryck stopped mid-way through a song, just building the fans anticipation until the point it all kicked off again in screams and explosions. It was brilliant to see Dave back on stage with Deryck and Cone, making Sum 41 closer to the original line up than ever before.
Many of us grew up listening to the likes of Sum 41 and it is difficult to believe it has been twenty years since the name came to be public knowledge. Over the years the band has gained more momentum and recognition for their songs so let’s hope for many good years to come.
