A Great Scottish Product
This Scottish three piece indie band are currently unsigned, but it cannot be too long before the scales fall off someone's eyes in A & R at one of the labels. Poor Old Ben have a big following and so much so they played two sets at the ‘In The City’ Music Conference in Manchester. I was fortunate enough to catch them at their second gig, at 42nd Street Nightclub in Manchester city centre.
They opened the set with a terrific number ‘In Dreams’, a fantastic indie guitar sound that one rarely hears these days. Then came ‘It Don’t Matter’ and ‘Homesick’, both very accomplished songs in their own right. They take their music very seriously and should be quite proud of what they have produced.

Poor Old Ben manage to keep the crowd in the palm of their hand, easy to see that this is a band that has a great deal of experience playing live and having a real audience. No pretending to play the instruments here, they play them so well live, even showing the ability to play the pipes during a reworked Gaelic song, ‘St Hilda’, which they opened playing the flute. They are not afraid to experiment during their live show!

They ended their set with ‘Wake Up Call’ and ‘Another Day’, both fantastic songs in their own right. They are a fantastic live band who play good guitar based indie music. I dread to use the word pop anywhere near this band as they are far better than that. It will not be long before this band are picked up by a label, they would be on a winner with Poor Old Ben.
