Still Remains Struggle to Find Their Own Sound
Still Remains are what you'd call basic thrash metal. It's loud, heavy, and fast - no more, no less. After two excellent bands, it's not very rousing, but you can't blame a band for that.
'Running out of Time' is an interesting hybrid of emo and metal, but that's pretty much all you can say about it. So I start feeling sorry for the band who are going mental on stage, which is more than can be said for the people watching them. The keyboardist especially is mad, runs around for a bit, then returns to playing the keyboard.
The third or fourth song in is apparently "all about cowboys and Indians". We have to pretend to be one or the other, and it's a different way to try to get the crowd involved. Unfortunately, it's more thrash metal with not much added on - it could have been done so much better with a little bit of thought. What actually comes out is a lot of noise.
'White Walls' is good, a relief perhaps, as it has a clear tune, an Irish bent, and intelligible vocals. You can hear the keyboard too, amazingly enough and it's a remarkable improvement. It gets better as well because the hardcore vocals really match the music for once.
If they steered clear of sounding like My Chemical Romance at times, sorted out the keyboards, and had more hardcore vocals, Still Remains could be really good.
