Traditional country and folk in a modern world.

Appearing first on a big bill can often mean playing to an empty room but the Porch Song Anthology never had this problem to contend with. There was already a sizeable crowd in the venue but with it being in a rather large sized room, there was a fair few spaces and there was an initial fear that the band's sound would get lost in the ether.

Not a chance as within the first couple of songs, the band proved capable of filling the room with their delicate backing and striding vocals. Lead singer Rachel Devine possesses a voice that is able to connect to the masses with fragility yet assured confidence.

The band claim to be folky but to these ears there is a large country and Americana vibe coming through in their tales of love and trouble of life and they were certainly deserving of a higher accolade than being on so early on a Saturday night. It's no great thing that Glasgow has a high assault and murder rate on the weekend but surely the band's tales of dark dealings and lustful revenge would find a place to soundtrack some of the cities goings on. It may not be a country city but there sure are a lot of cowboys and Porch Song Anthology make just the right type of good music to go down a storm up here.
