One thing that T in the Park really excels at is the warmth and support given to the local bands, with an almost jingo-istic fervour applied to the local heroes. The amount of saltires and lion rampant flags dotted around the crowd means that any local band would be assured of a warm reception.
Camera Obscura have been on the Scottish indie scene for a few years now and fit in with the stereotypical view of the indie bedwetter but their most recent album has indicated a move towards a commercialism and the busy tent will hopefully provide a few new followers for the band. The first release of the new single 'Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken' soars like a jangly pop classic and there are noticeable similarities to bands like The Concretes.
For a name that has been around for a while and has become an institution on the local music scene, it was surprising to hear that Camera Obscura were making their T debut but there was no noticeable nerves on show. With a large amount of handclaps going on, at times it seemed like the band were channeling the Shangalang nature of the Bay City Rollers but the crowd were well impressed and for the first time of the day, there was a good, clear sound that allowed the bands qualities to shine through easily.
With tambourines and keyboard riffs aplenty, Camera Obscura probably sound exactly like you would imagine them to but better and definitely not a bad thing at all.
