Sidecar 46 10th December The Joiners

The Joiners, Southampton
Monday 10th December 2007

A typical Monday night, avoidance of Kaos was the plan (we all know the addiction students throughout Southampton have come to acquire), and so a visit to our all time favourite gig venue The Joiners was scheduled.

Support acts This Manhatten and Chaos Theory were pretty disappointing, however Iron Maiden the 2nd (the nameless metallers) were brilliant, pleasing even those less into head moshing and circle pits. Definitely good entertainment.

Yet the band of the night most eagerly anticipated were Sidecar 46, a trio originally from Leicester who have set up camp down South and stormed through local venues ever since.

Nearing the end of their tour, the boys pulled out one of their best performances as of yet, humouring the crowd with drummer Andy Convey’s friendly banter and Rob Bray’s wonderful rendition of chart hit ‘Umbrella’- the tune that everybody claims to dislike but in fact, knows all the words to.

Sidecar have a unique eclectic live style about them, mixing grunge, punk, rock and Incubus (yes they deserve a genre all to themselves) and creating a fantastic live performance. Opening with heavier tunes ‘Gill the Wookie’, ‘Better than a poke in the eye’ and ‘Every house has got one’, Sidecar are seen collaborating old with new, branching back into their college days and performing vintage tunes in a tighter style.

‘Friends and Fistfights’, ‘Have you ever seen a glow worm Bugly’ and ‘Nagano’ were mid set and stole the show, proving that Sidecar aren’t any old local band- they are in fact three level headed musicians keeping the crowds swarming in.

The Joiners was on fire and the boys really looked like they were enjoying themselves, to Fellows- the bass legend, the venue looked like a second home. Early wire tanglation didn’t faze him and his hair continued to remain a crowd attraction throughout. Bray looked swish in his tight fitted tee and sexy leather, whilst Andy out shone skinny yellow jeans boy in the crowd, with his short, extremely tight pinky red adidas shorties. If that doesn’t have you sold then what will?

The boys are heading to Poole in 2008 (18th Jan) and playing their last gig of this tour on the 2nd Feb at the London Water Rats theatre. Make sure you go check these guys out, before the sold out show tickets are only available on ebay.
